It was with huge sadness we learnt of the death of Dr Heather Skinner a Senior Fellow at the Institute of Place Management, on the 30th April 2022. Heather died from cancer. Heather was a colleague of ours at at Manchester Metropolitan University, until she retired in December 2020.
Senior Fellowship is our highest honour and was bestowed on Heather in recognition for her outstanding contribution to the development of knowledge in the subject of place marketing. Heather was well-known for the annual Corfu Research Symposium she ran, which not only brought world-leading academics together, it also made a practical contribution to the development of tourism on the island. Heather was also an Associate Editor of the Journal of Place Management, a much-loved lecturer and a prolific author. During her career she has influenced the studies, research and practice of thousands of people.
Heather's funeral was the 10th May and she was buried in the British Cemetery in Corfu, with friends locally and from UK and further afield attending. In true Heather style she wrote her own eulogy and arranged all the details of the funeral. I have copied her last wish....
"Don't have too good a time, I would hate to miss out on a good party. Cry if you want to, if you have to, but please remember me and keep me alive in your memories for all the good times. I had a wonderful life and do not regret a thing (except dying, obviously). All my love, Heather".

May you rest in peace Heather. You were an exceptional and inspirational colleague and friend.
