The BID Foundation has announced a call for its Members to help drive the evolution of the Business Improvement District industry by joining a new series of Working Groups.
The move will build on the vital impact of BIDs in revitalising UK towns and cities and help the professional body to support BIDs, their levy paying businesses, and local communities.
The BID Foundation has recently agreed to move forward as the Institute of Place Management's first 'Community of Practice', recognising the crucial role that BIDs and their leaders have in influencing the place management profession. The organisation's priorities include increasing the impact of BIDs, advocating for the sector to national and local government, showcasing BIDs support for towns and cities, professionalising the industry through a community of peers, and acting as a custodian of the reputation of BIDs.
To help our group of BIDs take forward an ambitious agenda for the sector, we are recruiting members for a series of Working Groups, which will influence and help deliver a range of work alongside other BIDs and the external groups we interact with.
The BID Foundation is looking for individuals to nominate themselves to join these speciality working groups, that will work nimbly and collaboratively on related projects.
You will bring experience and skills relevant to the Working Group and give a voice to the BID sector, guiding the impact of its professional body and helping us to achieve its objectives.
The BID Foundation Working Groups are as follows:
Industry standards
This Working Group will manage and promote the adoption of the TBF Industry Standards, independently created to support the professionalisation of the BID sector. They will promote the 11 Industry Standards in addition to identifying and drafting technical standards (with support from IPM) on particular aspects of BID operations and strategy.

Policy & public affairs
A group of strategic thinkers with a strong political understanding will table and promote key policy stances and areas for review, including BID legislation. This group needs to consider how they can support this objective, looking ahead at potential policy issues amid a changing political landscape, and championing BIDs role in delivering for communities and centres.

Finance, membership, secretariat and governance
Focused on operational delivery of TBF's work, this Group will help to agree budgets and membership targets and oversee income and expenditure. The Group will oversee the appointment of the new Leadership Board with the TBF executive and an annual survey to engage the sector.

Brand, marketing & best practice/case studies
This Group will take forward a new TBF brand, embedding it within the Foundation. It will also work to harvest case studies and best practice that is shared amongst the BID sector.
Express your interest in joining this group
It's expected that members of each Working Group will meet between 2 to 4 times per quarter, depending on the projects ongoing at that time. Some co-ordination of work outside of these meetings is likely to be required but the TBF Executive recognises that each Working Group role is unrenumerated and the associated workload is commensurate.
The only requirements for members of Working Groups is that individuals are nominated Members of The BID Foundation.
We are looking to represent the diversity of thought, experience and background from across the sector, and encourage nominations from all those who are able and willing to contribute. This could be a good role for those looking to take their first steps onto representative bodies and Boards, or for those already used to working in this way.
