We are happy to announce the latest cohort of the MSc Place Management and Leadership got their final results, with all students gaining a Merit or a Distinction, and we have students also celebrating successful completion of the PG Certificate and PG Diploma. This really is a fantastic achievement as the course is challenging and all the students study the course as well as working full-time, in very demanding roles.
This year we have five graduates of the full MSc programme, congratulations to Diana Fawcett, Jeremy Rucker, Judith Walker, Nikki Griffiths and Stephanie James. In addition, this month Paul McGuirk completed and passed the PG Diploma, with Tom Bassford and Vivien Cannon completing and gaining the PG Certificate earlier this year.
Steph James, a town centre manager with more 10 years’ experience managing places said:
“The MSc in Place Management and Leadership was an amazing opportunity for me to develop my knowledge and also meet the wonderful people who formed our cohort and made the highs and lows of studying with a full time job an enjoyable experience.”
Fellow Graduate Judith Walker, who is the director of the place marketing consultancy Eutopia Strategy added:
“The MSc in Place Management and Leadership provided me with new insights and skills to tackle a broad range of place related challenges from factors that influence the vitality and viability of towns through to stakeholder management and place marketing.”
Our Place Management and leadership courses provide place management practitioners with invaluable insight, the opportunity to learn about new approaches in the sector, and to strengthen underpinning knowledge through exposure to academic research. The aim of our qualifications is to develop confident, respected place managers, capable of strategic thinking and transformative but inclusive place management.
Steph would recommend the course to any perspective students considering studying the course:
“I would thoroughly recommend the MSc to any place manager who wants to broaden their knowledge and understanding of place. I felt that although I had plenty of experience from my previous work and my years as town manager getting the MSc has given me the confidence that I have the knowledge and expertise and I look forward to developing them further through my membership of the IPM.”
All students who successfully completed our Place Management and Leadership courses were set to formally graduate in July. Unfortunately, due to the current situation around Covid-19, all in-person graduation ceremonies at the university have been cancelled. However with the power of Zoom, we have planned a virtual graduation ceremony, a number of graduates from the class of 2020 have agreed to give short presentations about their individual dissertation studies.
The virtual graduation will take place on 2nd July 2-3pm, which is great opportunity for any of our members or current students to hear about the processes and work load required to complete Masters level research.
If you would like to attend the virtual graduation, please click here to register.
The next intake of students on to our place management and leadership courses will be in January 2021. Click here for more information about our courses in Place Management and Leadership, help us build the next cohort by sharing this link with peers and colleagues.
